Leeds Primary Care Race Equity Network have officially launched their new webpage. Hosted on Leeds GP Confederation’s website, this webpage contains information about the network, useful resources, webinar and training offers, and upcoming cultural events. View the webpage here.

The first ever primary care network for Black and ethnic minority staff in Leeds was officially launched in July 2020. It was set up by local GP Dr Mohammed Sattar, with the help of local sponsors within primary care. It was formally known as the Leeds Primary Care BAME network before becoming the Race Equity Network in 2024.

The network is part of local efforts to put general practice at the centre of making a sustainable contribution to tackle inequalities that affect staff and patients. Since its launch, the network has held meetings with speakers such as Baroness Warsi and Habib Naqvi. The network also helped develop and launch the first primary care workforce survey in Leeds and more recently they have been piloting a Race Equity training project for primary care.

Dr Mariya Aziz is currently steering the Leeds Race Equity Network. She has been a GP since 2013 and worked in Keighley before moving to Vesper Road and Morris Lane surgery in 2021. Dr Aziz has always been passionate about race related issues and joined the network in 2020.

We’re excited to launch the Leeds Primary Care Race Equity Network website. Our hope is that this platform will bring together our diverse voices, foster learning, and inspire positive action in breaking down barriers and make a lasting impact on both colleagues and patients.
